I was walking on the beach today. The sea was quite rough, and the tide was high. It's a beautiful time of year to walk, as the ducks with their fluffy little ducklings grouped close around them, were swimming along the waves.
There is a rocky ledge at the end of the beach. There were two boys on the ledge; one about 7 or 8 years old and the other looked to be around 3. They were throwing rocks at the groups of ducks. One rock hit a duckling, and it disappeared.
I don't like to admonish other people's children, but this was appalling. I told the boys to please not throw rocks at the ducks.
The older child said to me, "If you want to see them go underwater, you have to try to hit them in the head".
What's next for these kids, drowning puppies?

Where were the parents????? Forget about the ducks for a moment; who lets a 3-year-old climb around on rocky, slippery, ocean ledges (surrounded by high waves) with a parent no where in sight?
It takes a village to raise a child. As a society we need to take matters into our own hands if the parents won't.
